A look back at 2018

I have been looking back at 2018 and what a great year it has been for All About The Sew! It’s only really when you stop and reflect on what you have achieved that you realised how much you have packed in!

Looking back at the stats:
I have held 53 workshops with 223 workshop places filled!!! Those places have been filled with both new customers and lots of returning customers so thank you all!! I am so pleased so many of you are enjoying the workshops and coming back for more!

The first workshop of 2018 could have gone better however!! I arrived at the hall, unpacked all of my equipment (a whole boot load) to then realise I was at the wrong hall!!! I then hot footed it to the right hall to find a karate class in full swing in the room that i had booked! I had to send everyone away which was awful and felt really bad about even though it wasn’t actually my fault. I then got into my car to head home and my car wouldn’t start!!! What an evening that was!!

Well onwards and upwards as they say!!

The Beast from the East!!!

In February, five dedicated sewists turned out in sub freezing temperatures for the 2nd part of their Linden sweatshirt workshop. Totally impressed by their motivation and commitment to come out in such conditions and finish their fabulous sweatshirts!! The Beast from the East did not deter All About The Sew!!

How to feel great in what you wear!

On a warmer evening in June I jointly hosted an evening event in Knowle with Nicky Jones of Look Chic image consultancy. The event was a sell out and involved prosecco, canapes, a talk from Nicky on wardrobe styles, personality and top tips on accessorising to suit your style. We also held a charity raffle which raised £300 for Parkinsons UK! It was a fabulous evening so thank you to all that came and everyone that supported the event. You can read more about the event in my blog post here.

New 6 week beginners course

September saw the launch of my new 6 week beginners sewing and dressmaking course. It was fully booked with 6 lovely sewists all keen to either start their sewing journey or improve their existing skills. I was so proud of all of the sewists that started on week 1 making a cushion cover (some had never used a machine before) and finished the 6 week course by having made an a-line skirt. I have since been getting pictures sent to me by some of the ladies of further independent sewing projects they have done! I love this!! This popular course is being run again in January 2019 and is also fully booked. If you are interested in future dates then please get in touch.

Claims to fame!
Those of you that know me and have come to my workshops will know
how much of a Tilly and the Buttons fan I am! In February I got to meet
Tilly herself at a trade show which was really exciting.
Look out for more of her patterns being taught at All About The Sew
workshops in 2019!!

Then in November, imagine my delight when I opened a copy of Sew magazine and saw myself in my black jumpsuit featured on the reader’s makes page. Most definitely a highlight of mine in 2018!!

Personal sewing firsts

This year I have continued to fit in as much personal sewing as possible. Not only does it keep me sane (!!) but I enjoy stretching my skills and know that by developing my sewing skills I will have so much more to pass on to my customers through my workshops. Earlier in the year I made my first quilt and fell in love with the quilting process! If you are interested in learning the basics of quilting and patchwork see the next workshop date here.

In October I finished my first ever coat – the Closet Case patterns Kelly anorak. I have been loving wearing it and have been pleased with the milder climate allowing me to wear it for longer into the winter than I expected!! This really stretched my sewing skills and I learnt lots throughout the process. This makes it even more satisfying when you’ve finished it – a real sense of pride and achievement. For more piccies and all of the gory details see my blog post here.

September saw All About The Sew’s second birthday and I couldn’t be prouder of what I have achieved in the last 2 years. I couldn’t have done it without all of your support so thank you!

Looking forward to 2019 I am excited to be introducing several new workshops, the first 2 being a beginners knitting class and a free motion machine embroidery workshop.

I will be continuing with some old favourites and skills workshops so that more people can enjoy them. I now have a potential of nearly 30 different workshops to offer – the problem is fitting them all in!! To see the current workshops on offer click here. I look forward to welcoming new customers in 2019 and continuing to develop the skills and interest of my existing customers too. The Great British Sewing Bee is set to return in early 2019 so am really looking forward to the sewing fever that will undoubtedly accompany that!!

Happy New Year to you all and here’s to lots more sewing in 2019!!
