Date - 23/11/2020
9:30 am - 12:00 pm
Duration 2.5 hours
This workshop is suitable for those who have used a sewing machine before and can confidently thread the machine and bobbin. If you need a beginners class or a refresher then have a look at beginners classes available.
**This workshop will be delivered virtually via the online video conferencing platform, Zoom. If you don’t already have a Zoom account, it is easy to set one up for free (basic package) via their website. On the day of the workshop I would email you the workshop joining instructions. Zoom allows 2 way communication between all participants and myself, allowing questions, feedback, demonstrations and conversation! It’s good fun and a great way to socialise with other people whilst sewing, during this period of lockdown.**
Learn to sew a Christmas stocking
Enjoy getting prepared for Christmas and learn how to make a beautiful bespoke Christmas stocking. This would make such a gorgeous addition to your Christmas trimmings and would make a lovely personalised handmade gift for someone.
The stocking is fully lined and can be customised using a variety of fabric combinations and optional trims. The possibilities are endless! There will also be the option to applique a letter on the stocking.
Approximate height of stockings in the photographs are 31cm and 13cm across the top. This is a lovely size to put smaller items such as sweets, small teddy etc.
Why not book with friends and get into the festive spirit together?
What will you learn:
- Tips on how to cut out fabric from a template accurately
- How to attach a lining to the stocking
- How to applique
- How to sew around curves accurately
- How to attach trims neatly
The following supplies will be sent to you prior to the workshop:
- Bondaweb for the appliqué
- Templates for the stocking project
- Photographic handout of the skills learnt in the workshop will be emailed to you after the class
You will need:
- A selection of scraps to use for the appliqué
- 3 fat quarters of fabric (1 for outer stocking, 1 for lining and 1 for cuff) – readily available in packs of 5-7 fat quarters in haberdasheries e.g Hobbycraft, John Lewis
- Any trims you may wish to embellish your stocking with and for the hanging hook e.g. pom pom trim or ric rac (nothing too fiddly!)
“I absolutely loved making these stockings. Once you know how to make it and have practised the techniques they can be quite quick to make up so they would make gorgeous gifts for family/friends and even pets!!! For the ‘C’ stocking hanging loop, I used the white ribbon that held the bundle of fat quarters together – thrifty hey?! I had a real job of choosing which fabrics to use – there are so many pretty Christmas fabrics out there! This would be a really fun class to do with friends.”
