Learn to sew with oilcloth
Oilcloth can be a really tricky fabric to work with. This 3 hour learn to sew with oilcloth class will teach you the essential skills of sewing with oilcloth and you will make 2 fantastic zipped pouches to take home.
You will learn lots of useful sewing skills including cutting out of fabric accurately, top tips for how to sew with oilcloth and changing feet on the machine. This class includes inserting a zip so you will also learn how to use the zipper foot and how to insert a zip into oilcloth.
You will learn:
Cutting out of fabric accurately

Changing feet on the machine and use of the zipper foot
How to insert a zip into oilcloth
Top stitching
Sewing gusset corners if sewing the ‘boxy’ pouches
You will make 2 pouches to take home.
Your first pouch will be a standard zipped pouch for coins or pencils etc (floral design on the picture)
Then for your second pouch you can do another standard pouch or choose between 2 other design options – either the standard boxed pouch (pale pink and white spots in picture) or taller pouch with boxed corners at the bottom only (grey and white diamonds on the picture)
Equipment and Materials:
Janome sewing machines and selection of sewing tools provided to use – including rotary cutters and self healing mats
All materials included including a small selection of several oilcloths and zips
Photographic handout of the skills learnt in the workshop will be emailed after the workshop

Learn how to use a variety of different sewing machine feet in this jam packed 3 hour class.
Do you ever find yourself wondering what a particular foot for your machine does?
Do you know what all of your sewing machine feet and accessories do?
Do you have problems changing the feet on your machine?
Would you like to make the most of your sewing machine and learn more of what you can do with it?
There will be a selection of sewing machine feet available to try out during the class including:
Invisible (concealed) zipper foot
Standard zipper foot
Adjustable zipper/piping foot
Button sewing on foot
Automatic buttonhole foot
Overcast foot
Blind hem foot
Binder foot
Straight stitch foot
Ditch quilting foot/stitch in the ditch foot
1/4" seam foot
Rolled hem foot (4mm and 6mm)
Walking foot (even feed foot) and quilting guide
Open toe/darning foot
There will not be time to try out all of them in the 3 hour class but demonstrations of them will be done and you can prioritise which ones to try out yourself.
The feet that will be used during the workshop will be compatible with Janome sewing machines.

Learn to sew a buttonhole cushion cover with self covered buttons
Learn to sew a gorgeous buttonhole cushion cover with self covered buttons in this 3 hour sewing class!
Take your sewing skills and your handmade cushions to the next level by learning how to sew automatic buttonholes on the sewing machine.
You will learn:
How to accurately mark out and position buttonholes
How to sew automatic buttonholes on the sewing machine
Tips on how to cut open buttonholes neatly and safely
How to make self covered buttons
How to hand sew self covered buttons into place
There will be the option of using the overlocker with guidance to finish off raw edges but not compulsory
The planned finished size of the cushion cover will be 35cm x 35cm square but you can choose to alter the size depending on your needs.
Supplies
What will be provided:
3 x metal buttons to be self covered
Use of sewing machines, tools and overlocker for finishing if required
Photographic handout of the skills learnt in the workshop will be emailed to you after the class
Cushion pad is not supplied
You will need to bring:
Medium weight woven fabric (not stretchy)
If fabric is 115cm wide you will need 1m of fabric
If fabric is 145cm wide you will need 0.5m of fabric
Matching/co-ordinating machine thread (a selection of Gutermann threads are available to buy at the studio)
If time allows you are welcome to make a second cushion cover or make a start on one. This sewing class is a Level 3 class - You need to have sewn a few simple projects before.
The sewing machine cover includes two pockets, ideal for storing a machine foot, table extension or accessories.
You will learn:
How to use a piping foot
How to sew neat piping
How to insert a snap fastening using Prym variopliers

Prym snap fastening and interfacing if inserting a snap fastening

What you need to bring:
Fabric - You will need 1m of woven fabric or a pack of fat quarters. Medium weight cottons/ denims/ upholstery weight fabrics would work well
Machine thread - you can use a contrasting thread to make the top stitching stand out.

This class is designed for children who have used a sewing machine before as there won't be time to go through how to use the machine (other than a quick refresher). If you are after a beginners children's class then the morning one would be more suitable - see here.
In this children’s sewing class, you will learn how to make an awesome drawstring backpack. Be inspired, unleash your creativity and learn a fantastic skill at the same time. The backpack would be perfect for PE, sleepovers, dance club, library trips, car journeys, football kit – the list goes on!!!
For children in Year 5 and above.
