This workshop will run on 2 dates. You must be able to attend both dates to complete the workshop.

This workshop is suitable for those who have used a sewing machine before and can confidently thread the machine and bobbin. If you need a beginners class or a refresher then have a look at beginners classes available.

Come and learn how to sew a boy’s shirt
You will learn:
- How to select the pattern size based on body measurements
- How to identify pattern pieces required
- How to lengthen/shorten pattern pieces if required
- How to accurately cut out pattern pieces
- How to identify the grainline of the fabric and lay out pattern pieces correctly
- How to cut fabric accurately
- How to use interfacing
- How to sew an automatic buttonhole on the machine
- How to sew the shirt with tuition along the way
What is included:
- Full individual use of Janome sewing machines
- Use of sewing tools
- Full tuition to make your garment
- Paper pattern to take home and step by step instruction booklet worth £8.95. You will then be able to use the pattern to repeat the project (and other projects) at home.

Sizes the pattern covers:
Simplicity 4760. We will be making view B.
- Smallest size
size S: chest 22-23″, waist 20.5-21″, approx height 38-41″
- Largest size
size L: chest 26-27″, waist 23-23.5″, approx height 50-52″

What you need to bring:
- Fabric:
suggestions: Cotton and cotton blends, gingham, chambray.
If fabric is 45″ wide you will need approx 1.1m of fabric
If fabric is 60″ wide you will need approx 0.9m of fabric
You may need slightly more fabric if you think you will need to lengthen the pattern
I would encourage you not to choose anything that may need pattern matching or stripes for your first version!!

“This shirt is such a fab pattern! You can really choose a variety of fabrics that you think the recipient would love to really have a unique shirt you won’t find in the shops! For your first version though I would opt for a plain fabric or one that doesn’t need any pattern matching - keep it simple! It’s a great project if you are interested in learning about dressmaking and following a pattern but don’t want the pressure of making something for yourself!! There are also 7 buttonholes so plenty of opportunity to practise automatic buttonholes on the machine!! This is a great value pattern as there is an men’s shirt version and trousers too.”
