Learn to make a fabric basket

Grab a cuppa and join me live on my Facebook page as I teach you how to sew a fabric basket. Have your machine threaded up and your fabric pieces cut out and I’ll teach you the rest. There will be the opportunity after the live sew along to purchase a photographic handout to support you repeating the project again and in case you want to sew at your own pace.

It’s time to gather your supplies!!!

 

For a small basket you will need:
Fabric, interfacing, thread and optional trim e.g. ribbon/ric rac

4 rectangular pieces of fabric (2 in one design for the outer basket and 2 in another design for the lining)

Please cut out your fabric into the following 4 pieces prior to the live sew along….

* Outer fabric – 2 rectangles of fabric 11” x 8” (28cm x 20cm)
* Inner fabric – 2 rectangles of fabric 11” x 8” (28cm x 20cm)
* Matching thread or contrasting colour if you wish
* Optional – ribbon/trim/ric rac 60cm

N.B. Each piece is roughly the same size as an A4 piece of paper, just to give you an idea. The rectangles should be orientated in a landscape direction so if your fabric has a directional pattern to it then please cut out your fabric in the correct direction.

You will also need:
*Firm (medium-heavy weight) fusible (iron-on) interfacing – 2 rectangles of 11” x 8” (28cm x 20cm)

scissors, tape measure or ruler, pins or clips, an iron/ironing board and of course a sewing machine!

Additional note:
Basic sewing skills required are the ability to set your own machine up ready to sew, sew a straight stitch and back (reverse) stitch. The rest I will run through during the live session. Plenty of scope to learn!!

Interfacing is a material that strengthens fabric to give it some body. This will help the give the basket some shape and stop it collapsing. You can buy online – 2 companies I know make it – Vilene and Hemline.

Pattern instructions

These will be available to purchase after the event. It is a step by step photographic handout of the project produced by All About The Sew

It will be available to buy for 48 hours after the live sewalong (until 4pm on 24/3/20).

This is intended for personal use only and should not be reproduced in any way.

It will be emailed to you so you can save it or print it out at home.

Please note only your Name and Email address are required. These will not be stored by All About The Sew after the transaction has been processed and I have emailed you the handout.
