Come and learn how to sew with knit/jersey fabrics and make the perfect relaxed sweatshirt.
The Linden sweatshirt by Grainline Studio is a relaxed fit sweatshirt, has raglan sleeves and a slightly scooped neckline.
“The Linden Sweatshirt gives a modern update to the classic sweatshirt. View A features long sleeves with cuffs and falls to the mid hip with a lower ribbing band while View B hits at the high hip and has short sleeves. You can also mix and match sleeve and body lengths to create multiple versions of this sweatshirt.”

Fabric -1.7m should be plenty (45″ and 54″ wide fabric)
Ribbing (optional) – 30 cm of 36″ wide ribbing

Suggested fabrics
Medium weight knits with a minimum of 20% stretch such as French terry, sweatshirt fleece, sweater knits, and jersey. Extra fabric may be needed to match plaids, stripes, or one-way design prints.
Stretch percentage is an indicator of how stretchy a fabric is. This pattern requires fabric with a minimum of 20% stretch – i.e. when a 10cm piece of fabric is stretched to it’s maximum it would measure 12cm. A blog post with a clear explanation can be viewed here.
Please give me a call if you are in any doubt about fabric choices or suggestions of where to buy from.
It is recommended to pre wash your fabric before the workshop as it is likely to shrink a little in the first wash.
Cost £60 – for the 2 sessions.
(This includes a paper pattern worth $16.00/£12 to use in the class and take home with you to use again)
Lorna says:
“I absolutely love the Linden sweatshirt. I have made 2 so far and have plans to make a few more for sure! They are so snuggly and comfortable to wear. It is a really great pattern for those starting out in dressmaking. Don’t be put off by working with stretchy fabrics – its not as hard as you might think. If you don’t want to stress about matching up stripes/patterns then choose a plain fabric or a pattern with small print! The Linden sweatshirt offers a comfortable yet stylish wardrobe staple that looks great with anything! I’ve also worn one to Pilates for the warm up – it’s perfect for layering.
