Learn to make a half apron

Grab a cuppa and join me live on my Facebook page as I teach you how to sew a half apron. Have your machine threaded up and your fabric pieces cut out and I’ll teach you the rest. There will be the opportunity after the live sew along to purchase a photographic handout to support you repeating the project again and in case you want to sew at your own pace.

It’s time to gather your supplies!!!

There are 2 options for the half apron:
1) Un-gathered apron (blue cupcakes with pink waistband and pocket)
2) Gathered apron (pink flowery one with blue pocket and waistband)

 

 

These dimensions are for a standard adult size. You can size up or down depending on who you are making it for. You can also mix and match the fabric combination.

If you use 2 different fabrics like in the photos (Fabric A- for the waistband and pocket and B -for the main apron)

For ungathered apron you will need:

If fabric is 45″ wide:
Approx 60cm of fabric A
1m of fabric B

If fabric is 60″wide:
Approx 60cm fabric A
1/2m of fabric B

For gathered apron you will need:

If fabric is 45cm or 60cm wide:
Approx 60cm fabric A
1m of fabric B

You may need less fabric if your fabric does not have a directional print and you therefore have more flexibility on how you cut out the pattern pieces, or if you want the apron shorter on you.

Please note – for my sample apron I used a white fabric as the lining fabric for the main apron and pocket. You could use any fabric you like. In the instructions below I have guided you to use the same fabric for the outer piece and lining (both fabric A).

Please cut out your fabric into the following 6 pieces prior to the live sew along….

For both versions:
* Fabric A
Waistband
– 2 strips of fabric 45″ x 6″ (115cm x 15cm)

N.B One of the waistband strips you then cut in half as per the photo so you end up with 7 pieces.

Pockets
– 2 rectangles of fabric 16″ (width) x 10″ (depth) (40cm x 26cm)

For ungathered apron:

*Fabric B
2 rectangles of fabric 25″ (width) x 18″ (length) (64cm x 46cm)

For gathered apron:

*Fabric B
2 rectangles of fabric 33″ (width) x 18″ (length) (84cm x 46cm)

* Matching thread or contrasting colour if you wish

You will also need:

scissors, tape measure or ruler, pins or clips, an iron/ironing board and of course a sewing machine!

Additional note:
Basic sewing skills required are the ability to set your own machine up ready to sew, sew a straight stitch and back (reverse) stitch. The rest I will run through during the live session. Plenty of scope to learn!!

These will be available to purchase after the event. It is a step by step photographic handout of the project produced by All About The Sew

It will be available to buy for 48 hours after the live sewalong (until 4pm on 28/4/20).

It will be emailed to you so you can save it or print it out at home.
